Net Gains: Mesh fabric is a hot lingerie trend that flatters you with a revealing moment.

Lola Haze Signature Camisole - CopyWhen people think of mesh, they typically think sexy. As a design accent it has certainly been used to add an erotic charge to fashion, especially in intimate apparel. When it comes to high-end lingerie, it’s hard to name a brand that doesn’t incorporate some measure of mesh in their collections. However, mesh has benefits beyond looking provocative. It’s a very comfortable fabric to wear in panties since it’s breathable and lightweight. Still, there’s no denying the visual appeal of mesh. Its earliest applications date back to the 1700s when the French started making a hexagonal fabric in the city of Tulle, giving birth to tulle fabric, which was first linked to wedding dresses in 1840 when it was featured in Queen Victoria’s bridal gown. Nylon mesh, which has a functional benefit used in sports apparel, was invented by a director who worked for DuPont and was patented in 1935. Nearly 80 years later, mesh remains a popular trend for lingerie brands using it creatively in all categories of intimates. Here are some of my favorites that we offer on ThePinkSlip.com.

Catherine Teddy by Arianne

Light, sheer, stretch mesh fabric gently hugs your curves in the Catherine Teddy with intricate scalloped eyelet lace trim. Underwire cups offer support and shape, and are trimmed with same scalloped lace. Narrow shoulder straps adjust in back. Thong styling offers minimal coverage in rear.

Wardrobe Wednesday: Why a pretty and supportive push-up bra can be an uplifting experience.

Push-Up BraFor the second installment of my bra wardrobe-building series for the New Year, I want to focus on the push-up bra. I like to think of push-ups in the same way I do about a hot pair of high-heeled shoes. They may not be the most comfortable garment to wear, but, let’s face it, they give us a highly desirable effect. You know what they say, we pay a price for glamour. It’s also about  how we feel about ourselves. What girl doesn’t want a little help now and then? Push-up bras produce different levels of enhancement. Depending on our personal taste, a push-up can give us a nice lift that supports and flatters us in a fitted top or dress or make us a strong contender for a part-time gig at the local Hooters. My point is that push-ups are like makeup for the bustline. Construction is important. On average, no two push-up bras are built the same way so it’s good to try out a few styles from different brands to find out which one offers the best fit for you. I have three brands that I like to recommend to customers depending on their needs.

The Little Bra Company

For small-breasted women, The Mercedes bra is a sophisticated petite demi push-up with medium padded contoured smooth cups for subtle lift and support, and hints of feminine lace detail. More side coverage offers attractive looking rounded lift. Perfect for scoop neck and lower cut tops. Although you still get the cleavage and push-up known from The Little Bra Company bras, the cups are slightly roomier with more elastic in the band. Please consider a size that is closer to your general bra size. This bra does not fit as snug as the other styles from The Little Bra Company.

Simone Perele

Simone Perele is a brand to turn to for a romantic take on most bras. The Amour Push Up Racerback bra features luxurious lace, romantic details, and a flattering fit. It’s designed with contour cups and progressive padding that enhance and lift. Embroidered flowers accent the wide-set straps and center gore.

OnGossamer

OnGossamer has a trio of push-ups that offer variety in degree of uplift and neckline.

The Bump it Up push-up is one of the brand’s best-selling bras with seamless superfine mesh and a graduated push-up pad to create cleavage that bumps you up one whole cup size. You can twist the bra at the center for even more lift.

OnGossamer’s Sleek & Lace Scoop Neck push-up  has their deepest plunging neckline with cleverly angled cups and graduated push-up pads for maximum cleavage. It’s beautiful in silky, sleek fabric and a stretch lace back that adds the perfect touch of femininity.

Shoulder to Shoulder: How a great strapless bra can support and flatter your holiday party look.

Strapless Bras from Pink Slip

Strapless Bras from Pink Slip

As fashion has evolved, so has the bra. One of the most crucial styles to have, especially for women who like to experiment with fashion, is the strapless. Women planning to flaunt their beautiful shoulders in strapless or one-shouldered gowns this holiday season need to have a good strapless bra in their wardrobe. Actually, they need at least two: one in black and one in nude. When it comes to finding the best strapless for you, it’s important to have an open mind, experiment with brands and understand that brands have different sizing systems. You may be a 34C in a basic bra from brand ABC, but one in size 36B by brand XYZ may fit you just as well. What I always suggested to customers at my store was to gather eight bras and try them on with clothing worn over the bra. Remember, you’re not only going to check the fit but the effect the bra gives you under clothes. Finding the right strapless for you requires trial and error. By its nature, the strapless bra needs to fit more snugly than your basic everyday bra. The key to determining whether a bra is appropriately snug versus too tight is to conduct the mirror test. I know, we hate the mirror test. Who wants to stare at our own backside under fluorescent lights? Well, I hope that you’re standing under soft lighting when you do this because no woman deserves the jarring effect of harsh lighting. Nevertheless, it’s the only way to avoid unnecessary pain or the embarrassment of an ill-timed wardrobe malfunction when you’re getting down on the dance floor. If it’s loose on you, you’ll be doing “the tug” all night long.
Imagine that you’re doing the mirror test:
• Examine how your breasts sit in the cups.
• The bra needs to lift and not flatten.
• Look for a flattering swell in your bust without spilling out of the cups.
• When you turn around and look in the mirror you should not see rolls of back fat protruding from the wings. If you do, it’s time to say “Next!”
If you’re happy with the way your bust looks in the cups, feel like you can move without spilling out and don’t see traces of back fat, put on a body-conforming top – or the dress you plan to wear to your special occasion – and complete your strapless test drive.
Strapless bras come in two categories: basic and deep plunge. Convertible bras offer the option to go strapless as well. At Pink Slip, we carry three styles that offer different effects: a strapless push-up, a lacy fashion bra, and a plunge bra for full-busted women. All of them are designed to fit properly and have detachable straps to double as convertible bras.

The Booster:
For extra oomph, OnGossamer’s superfine mesh overlays a push-up strapless pad to create a seamless look. Lightweight silicone edging on the bra’s back avoids slipping. Convertible adjustable straps give you the option of wearing it under gowns with a range of necklines. This bra is a real worker bee, ladies.

For the Curvy Girl:
Panache’s No. 1 selling bra, the Porcelain Molded Strapless Bra, has lightly padded, contour underwire cups for support and shape. It’s seamless for modesty and has an even, rounded appearance. This bra has detachable straps, so in addition to being a strapless, it can be worn as a halter, one-shoulder, crisscross or regular style. The deep plunge center front makes it perfect for wearing under low-cut strapless outfits. It features silicone gripper along the wings for a secure fit. If you’re a lush, curvy girl, this bra is for you.

The Romantic Look:
The Celeste Strapless Plunge by Simone Perele is a beautiful contour underwire bra featuring seamless cups and elegant French Chantilly lace trim, with light padding for modesty and a smooth, rounded shape. Removable thin straps are double elastic in the front and single in the back, and can be worn in traditional, racerback or strapless styles. A deep plunge center front makes it perfect for low-cut strapless outfits. The sides and back have sewn-on elastic with silicone grippers strips at top and bottom. This is the one you want to go with it if you’re looking to make a sexy statement when your party dress comes off!

No matter what your personal style or body type is, invest the time needed to experiment with a few brands and I guarantee you’ll find the right strapless bra for you. Then hit the dance floor and throw caution to the wind!

Petite Chic: How to brighten the holiday season wearing the prettiest bras designed for small-breasted women.

Kate Hudson is sleek and sexy in Glee.

Is there anything Kate Hudson can’t do? She acts, models for Ann Taylor and Almay and boy, can she sing and dance. Clearly having inherited her mom Goldie Hawn’s awesome talent, Kate is everywhere these days. She graced the cover of Harper’s Bazaar’s October issue and is currently vamping things up as a sexy dance teacher on “Glee.” What’s especially great about Kate is that she has reached the heights in Hollywood without caving in to the pressure to fit into a cookie-cutter standard of beauty. In a town filled with gorgeous women, many of them surgically enhanced, Kate stands out with her bubbly personality, kewpie doll beauty and lithe dancer’s body. She hasn’t let having a modest bosom hold her back and tackles both romantic comedy and sexy roles with equal relish. When it comes to bras, small-breasted women everywhere can enjoy freedom of choice if they know which brands to turn to for their special needs. Although this isn’t a post about fitting a smaller chest (which I plan to cover soon in a future post), I want to discuss the style options available to the petite woman. With the holidays just around the corner, fashion bras are a good option for a gift idea and there are several styles in the market that offer varying degrees of support and shaping. The common denominator is that they’re super cute, especially in lace.

Lucia bra by The Little Bra Company

Lucia push-up by The Little Bra Company

For the woman looking for a boost, I recommend Lucia by The Little Bra Company, the specialist in intimates for petite women. LBC’s band size is cut smaller than other lingerie brands to accommodate petite figures. This pretty lace bra flatters smaller figures with a sexy, deep plunge. The lace extends past the contour cups along the shoulder straps and lays flat on the body, making it great for every day wear. It has a cute bow accent at the center and elastic straps that adjust in the back with brasstone metal hardware.

Cosabella Sweetie Bralet

Never Say Never Sweetie bralet by Cosabella

The designers at Italian brand Cosabella are masters at color and they bring their magic to the small-framed woman with the Sweetie bralet from their Never Say Never collection.  It’s wireless, but supportive at the same time, designed with Lycra stretch, which eliminates the need for a hook closure. I suggest you collect Sweetie in all of Cosabella’s great colors. Never Say Never, indeed!

Hanky Panky Lace Bralette

Hanky Panky Lace Bralette

Hanky Panky goes for the gold with this adorable bralette designed in a sweet sheer lace. It’s super comfy, offers light support and is designed to easily slip over the head, so it has no back closure. Pair it with one of Hanky Panky’s famous thongs and you’re set!

My Daily Bra by Samantha Chang

My Daily Bra by Samantha Chang

This romantic style is signature Samantha Chang: highly feminine yet minimalist in its elegance. Sporting a V-neck plunge that’s sweetly sexy, the bra is wireless and supports with lined cups, adjustable straps and a back hook closure. You’ll feel eminently girly in its soft lace design.

OnGossamer Bump it Up push-up

Bump it Up push-up bra by OnGossamer

The Bump it Up push-up bra is well-named. It’s OnGossamer’s best-selling bra with seamless superfine mesh and a graduated push-up pad to create cleavage that bumps you up one whole cup size. Twist the bra at the center for even more lift!  It has a back hook-and-eye closure and adjustable straps.

You can’t go wrong with any of these great fashion bras for petites. Treat yourself to one or more of these cute bras and go out dressed in holiday style to work what you’ve got, just like the wonderful Kate Hudson.

Naked Ambition: Avoid pesky bumps and visible panty lines with technologically advanced underwear so soft and lightweight, it feels like you’re wearing nothing.

Girl short by Commando

Lovely lady lumps. When Fergie sang those words in The Black-Eyed Peas’ hit single “My Humps,” she meant it as a celebration of womanly curves. In the real world, however, lumps of another kind aren’t so lovely on the ladies. You know what I mean. Those pesky little bumps and lines resulting from our efforts to keep up with the latest fashions. We’ve created many cute phrases to describe them in lighter terms, perhaps to lessen their impact on the near perfect outfits we’ve painstakingly put together for a special occasion. Love handles. Muffin top. Let’s not forget the dreaded VPL. We can resort to calling them our BFF but that won’t make them go away. The best way to combat them is with technology, my friends. I’m here to tell you there is a way to free yourselves from the scourge of not-so-lovely lady lumps. Thanks to the ingenuity of intimate apparel brands, there are panties that help smooth out your form under trendy form-fitting outfits. I’m not talking about shapewear, which is a separate topic I’ll address in a future post. These are functional panties with something extra. Designers are taking new approaches to details such as leg bindings, seams and fabric weight to create 21st century undies that help you look your best with a discreet approach to design that puts performance above appearance, even though they’re still pretty cute in a minimalist way. Unlike fashion panties or sexy underwear, today’s tech intimates are a no-frills category and I mean that in a good way.  Remember that finding the right style for you takes some trial and error. To get you started, here’s a selection of styles from some of the best in the market.

Simone Perele Invisi’bulles boy short

Simone Perele Invisi’bulles boy short

Inspired by bubbles (bulles in French), this light-as-air panty from Simone Perele, a newer player in this category that I highly recommend, looks and feels invisible. It has state-of-the-art features that add up to an amazingly light fit. It’s tagless in an ultra-fine, stretch microfiber fabric with stitch-free bonding for a smooth look under clothes. This beauty is made in France.

Thong by Commando

Commando thong

This wonderful brand, the first to fully address the seamless market, isn’t named Commando for nothing. This precision-cut underwear made from a patented fabric lays smooth and flat on your body. Its “naked” construction, without elastic or trim, eliminates panty lines and hip gouging forever. You’ll barely feel it and people will never see it under your clothes!

Eberjey Pima Goddess lowrider bikini

Eberjey  Pima Goddess lowrider bikini

If you are a hardcore cotton fan with a taste for minimal silhouettes, I recommend you try Eberjey’s Pima Goddess lowrider bikini.  With a touch of spandex to enhance fit, this panty in pima, the softest kind of cotton, is an excellent option for subtle styling that flatters all types of bodies. It should be a staple in your lingerie drawer.

OnGossamer mesh hip boy short

OnGossamer Mesh hip boy short

OnGossamer, one of my fave brands, offers a great boy short in a superfine mesh that is seamless. One of their best-selling styles, it’s 100 percent nylon and is trimmed in the brand’s signature delicate edge. It’s amazingly comfortable and guarantees no lines.

Go forth, ladies, and enjoy your fashion without fear of lines and lumps. There are options! If you have any questions, I’m here to help.

XOXO,

Margo
