Wardrobe Wednesday: Four lace bras that will add romantic allure to your lingerie collection.

Lace BraNo conversation about building the perfect bra wardrobe is complete without mentioning a lace bra. It’s without a doubt the most romantic piece of intimate apparel a woman can wear. With Valentine’s Day just a few weeks away, I thought it would be very appropriate to discuss lace bras. Clearly someone had women in mind when they invented this dainty openwork fabric. According to Wikipedia, lace was prominent in fashion and home décor during the late 1500s. It was used to embellish collars and cuffs and was used by clergy of the early Catholic Church as part of vestments in religious ceremonies, but did not become widely used until the 16th century in the northwestern part of Europe. Lacemaking became a popular trade, spreading to North America in the 19th Century through missionaries. The invention of the bobbin net machine in 1768 caused a shift away from lacemaking by hand as a trade given the ability to produce lace more quickly. Handmade lace become more of a hobby as a result. Nevertheless, the history of lace is certainly ample evidence of why European brands excel at designing lace bras. It’s in their DNA. In fact, the three brands I’m going to recommend are all European.

Simone Perele’s Celeste triangle bra

In the soft bra category, I really like the Celeste Triangle Non Underwire bra by Simone Perele. It’s romantic, flirtatious and comfortable, providing light support and has a flattering triangle shape. The Celeste Triangle Bra is showcases the elegance and beauty of French Chantilly lace with stretch lace cups for a perfect fit.

Graciuse demi cup bra by LOU Paris.

LOU Paris, which has undergone a fabulous update, offers a pretty lace bra called Graciuse that I absolutely adore. It’s made using rigid French lace that doesn’t stretch so it’s a great style to wear for minimizing bounce. The flirty details include a satin bow and lacy trim. This is a brand new style in the collection that I predict will be a big hit.

LOU Paris Picadilly Demi Bra

If you like a demi cup, check out the Piccadilly lace demi bra from LOU Paris. It features a semi-sheer genuine Leaver’s lace cup, with soft sheer mesh lining. A 3/4 vertical seam on the cup provides a natural uplift.

Mimi Holliday Angelique Jet Comfort Bra

British brand Mimi Holliday gives the French a run for their money in the lace bra category with the Angelique Jet Comfort Bra. Angelique Jet will make you feel sexy and empowered in a delectable combination of pure silk and intricate lace in an opulent onyx. It has a perfect combination of full coverage support, structure and beautiful detailing, creating natural cleavage. With its jet black lace cups and matching silk detailing, this bra is simply charming and gives great shape in all cup sizes.

Wild Wednesday: The iconic leopard pattern never fails to bring out the sex kitten in a woman.

Leopard print is a signature look of film sirens.

Leopard print is a signature look of film sirens.

What is it about women and cats? Throughout history, there’s been a symbiotic relationship between us and our feline friends that continues in the present. The ancient Egyptians admired cats for their natural hunting skills and domesticated them to vanquish mice and snakes. The cat’s regal air inspired worship from cults, most notably the followers of the cat goddess Bast (also known as Bastet, according to Wikipedia). The parallels between women and cats in pop culture have often been unflattering. The legend of Bast inspired the entertainment industry, most notably in horror films such as 1942’s “Cat People” (remade in 1982 with Nastassja Kinski) where a woman was cursed to transform into a murderous panther that killed anyone who crossed her. In the 1960s, the link between felines and females came to a head with the popularity of the Catwoman character in the Batman comics and Julie Newmar’s sexy performance as the villainess in the campy TV show. Catwoman endured over the years and was portrayed as a complex antiheroine by Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry and Anne Hathaway in different films with varying degrees of success. While Catwoman is usually depicted wearing a skintight catsuit, another popular take on feline style is the leopard print, which today is more than a trend, it’s a must-have look in any fashion-conscious woman’s wardrobe. Around the same time that Catwoman emerged as a subversive icon of female empowerment, Hollywood became a jungle filled with leopard-spotted starlets. Sex goddesses such as Brigitte Bardot and Jayne Mansfield showed a penchant for wearing coats, bikinis and accessories adorned in leopard print and the classic 1967 film “The Graduate” treated moviegoers to the chic vision of Anne Bancroft as Mrs. Robinson — the original cougar (yet another feline reference) — effortlessly seducing Dustin Hoffman in her leopard coat and intimates. Media images of famous women dressed in leopard usually have an underlying  sex appeal and danger. It’s debatable whether these images are empowering or objectifying. Sexy is powerful, in my opinion. Whether leopard spots help empower a schemer like Mrs. Robinson or a playful sex kitten like Jayne Mansfield, who reportedly was far smarter than her public persona suggested, animal prints are fun and leopard is eternally chic, especially in intimate apparel. At Pink Slip, many of our favorite brands offer fabulous leopard patterns in their assortments and I highly recommend them as a timeless, on-trend look that puts the grrr in girl power.

Eberjey Leonora chemise

Eberjey puts its signature romantic touch on leopard print with its Leonora collection. Their A-line chemise is soft and light in sueded, soft leopard jersey. It features stretch-to-flatter mesh,  lace on the neckline and side edges and an underbust applique.

The Leonora collection also combines lace and leopard in its bralet, a soft cup in jersey with a sweet lace neckline, an underbust band and a bow accent in the center. A matching Leonora thong completes the kittenish look.

Claudette Dessous Sucre

Claudette takes a playful and sexy approach to its designs and the Dessous Sucre Collection is no exception. The style’s full coverage bra is highly functional with non-stretch mesh underwire cups that have 3-parts, transversal seams for a rounded shape and vertical seams for uplift. Stretch mesh sides and back for breathability, with elastic edge for a more custom fit. The mesh center panel has a flirty ribbon bow at top. Covered elastic, wide-set straps have bows at bases and adjust in back with coated metal hardware. A cute thong is available, complete with matching bow.

Encore L’Amour Collection by Mimi Holliday

Mimi Holliday is another very flirty line that’s doing leopard in its Encore L’Amour group. The Encore L’amour Shoulder Bra combines leopard with soft tones of peach and neutral nude tones. The bra supports you with wide lace straps leading all the way up to your shoulders,  and boosts you while scalloped edge flatters your decolletage. Don’t forget the coordinating bottom!

The Encore L’amour group also offers a firty sheer alternative to a slip with a chiffon belt to create shape and silhouette, and button fastened gusset to make it practical and easy to wear. A soft gathering of chiffon around the edge of the bottom half of the teddy adds a fun vintage feel.

For the final entry in my Men’s Week series of posts I want to address the lucky ladies out there who have a thoughtful guy who is sweet enough to buy you intimates for the holidays. Actually, this post applies to any occasion during the year when you get lingerie as a gift from a guy. What happens when the intimates he selects are what he would like to see you slip on rather than the style you would buy for yourself? You know where I’m going with this, don’t you? You take one look at it — what little there may be to see or even hold — and think to yourself “I would NEVER wear this thing.” Clearly, your guy has an agenda and I’m here to tell you to get on that gravy train… now! There are plenty of women out there still waiting for Thanksgiving, if you know what I mean. It’s so hard to find a great guy with a sense of romance. Remember “Sex and the City?” I rest my case. Ladies, I urge you to meet him half way, put that sexy number on and be the pin-up girl of his dreams. Empower yourself by freeing yourself and celebrate how lucky you are to have a significant other who makes the effort to keep things fresh and exciting between you. It’s a gift in more than one way. I know some women find “playing sexy” an intimidating prospect. Not everyone aspires to be a Victoria’s Secret model and that’s perfectly fine. You still owe it to yourself to put forth your best effort and try a new look while remaining true to yourself. Remember, in the privacy of your home, you and he are the only ones who matter. You don’t have to wait for him to get you something “different” to push the boundaries of your lingerie wardrobe, either. This goes for the single gals out there, too! That said, I find it helpful for a woman who’s conservative to consider dipping her toe in the sea of sexy by trying new lingerie looks in degrees of daring. Given the phenomenal success of 50 Shades of Grey, I suspect that my Three Degrees of Daring is an approach whose time has come!

The First Degree: Keep it Simple.

Believe it or not, simplicity works with men. Sometimes all you need is a key new piece in your lingerie wardrobe to add a spark to your boudoir look. Black and sheer always work, of course, and I would recommend the Screen Goddess Slip from Lola Haze, which lets you be the main attraction in a revealing mesh silhouette that falls beautifully on your curves.

The Second Degree: The Little Black Set.

Speaking of black, the theory about every woman needing a little black dress in her wardrobe applies to intimates, too. Black lingerie is just sexy, period. It’s the first thing I recommend to women who may be resistant to donning a full-on corset and garters number. The Little Black Set, consisting of a basic black bra, a panty, thigh highs and a garter, works well without going too far if you’re conservative. It’s easy to put together. Every lingerie brand has a black bra and I like Addiction’s Nouvelle full-cup bra with mesh and soft microfiber paneling.

A panty with a special detail, meanwhile, brings the eye to your womanly figure and adds zing to your style. Try Leg Avenue’s sheer panty with satin rhumba ruffle back or Mimi Holliday’s Angelique Jet Bow Back Thong, which has a flattering silk satin bow in back that literally gives him something special to unwrap this holiday season!

For the legs, Philippe Matignon offers sexy Nobless 50 denier suspender belt thigh-high stockings with sheer toes. Pair them with garter belts from Mimi Holliday or Simone Perele for the perfect finishing touch.

The Third Degree: Dress it Up!

You’re ready to tap into your inner Bond Girl and strut your stuff in a dress-up look with the works: corset, garters, sheers, you name it. This isn’t about having a so-called perfect body, mind you. If you’re an extra curvy gal or a petite one with a modest bust and have the love of a good man, you are perfect in his eyes, so go for it!

This season I’m very big on the three-piece Blush set by Leg Avenue, the masters in sexy lingerie looks. It pays homage to pin-up girl style with lace and a power mesh underwire bra with retro stitching and oversized elastic straps, a girdle skirt with attached garters and matching G-string.

So the next time your guy tries to coax you into wearing lingerie that you wouldn’t choose for yourself, meet him half way. If all goes well, you won’t be wearing it for long!

XOXO,

Margo

The Merrier Derriere: Spice up your date night wardrobe this holiday season in sexy panty styles with a cheeky attitude.

Jennifer Lopez works her assets in her “Dance Again” video.

Blame it on Jennifer Lopez. Ever since this stunning Latina conquered the worlds of music and films with her leonine beauty and hourglass figure, a shapely derriere has emerged as a coveted new standard of feminine allure. There is no resisting JLo’s mesmerizing curves. She enthralled Ben Affleck, married crooner Marc Anthony and then charmed millions of “American Idol” fans. While JLo is genetically blessed, some of us have to work harder to accentuate the junk in our trunk. Women inspired by bodacious celebrities like Beyonce, Sports Illustrated supermodel Kate Upton and “Mad Men” star Christina Hendricks are flocking to do squats and take kickboxing classes. Although I applaud the pursuit of personal fitness, I’m happy to note that there are other ways to flatter your fanny even if you don’t have a beauty of a booty. Many of the hottest lingerie brands in the world have created provocative panty styles for women of all shapes and sizes to highlight their best assets with whimsical details perfect to wear under holiday party fashions. From flirtatious boy shorts to imaginative thongs, designers are lavishing women with pretty laces, cute bows and daring keyhole accents to freshen up their intimates wardrobe.

Eberjey takes the romantic route to sexy with the Colette boy thong, which is designed in stretch-to-flatter sheer honeycomb lace. It’s cut like a hipster brief in the front, but the thong back gives you a no-panty-line look. I love its flirtatious feel.

Mimi Holliday Confetti Bomb Bow Thong

The Mimi Holliday brand is from Damaris, the United Kingdom-based company that created “bottom cleavage” with its infamous bow peep-hole knickers.  The Confetti Bomb Bow Back Thong is appropriately named, exploding in fabulous femininity with polka dots, silk satin, bows and lace. The flattering back bow can be re-tied and adjusted whenever necessary, giving your significant other something very special to unwrap!

Oh La La Cheri crotchless boy short

Oh La La Cheri crotchless boy short

If you prefer date night undies that combine elements of naughty and nice, I highly recommend the crotchless lace boy short by sexy underwear specialist Oh La La Cheri. This gorgeous short has a sweet vintage appeal in a stunning floral lace design yet adds a provocative touch with a corset-inspired tie back that is most definitely sexy.

I hope you’ve been inspired by this tour of fun and innovative styles that can add sizzle to your panty drawer. Free yourself to try something new and experiment with sexy undies that let you bare as much as you dare!
